Miller gets U.S. import rights to Grolsch

Beer, Business, News - No Comments » - Posted by James on May, 16 at 10:15 am

image_investorsIn a move to bolster their euro-beer portfolio, Miller has acquired rights to import Grolsch to the states from Anheuser-Busch. While I’m sure that this wont affect the Grolsch formula in any way, it may improve upon the marketing of Grolsch in the states.

The deal should be complete by August 1st.

“We are pleased to acquire the U.S. rights to Grolsch, which is a terrific brand steeped in nearly 400 years of heritage,” said Miller CEO Tom Long. “With Peroni, Pilsner Urquell and now Grolsch, we will offer some of the best European beers to our customers and consumers.”

A-B and Miller are working to finalize and close the deal by August 1. Terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.

Driver buckles beer in car — but not child! (Another one from our friends down under!)

Alcoholics, The Drunkist MVP - 1 Comment » - Posted by James on May, 13 at 7:41 am

In follow up to our previous story “The Drunkist MVP: Tina “Beer” Williams“, we present the .au of The Drunkist MVP. This man in DARWIN (how appropriate!) buckled up his beer (which was most likely Fosters) but not his child.

Congratulations unknown Australian man! You are The Drunkist MVP!

DARWIN, Australia (AP) — An Australian driver who secured a carton of beer in his car with a seat belt but left a 5-year-old child unrestrained was fined 750 Australian dollars ($710; €460), police said Tuesday.

Constable Wayne Burnett said he was “shocked and appalled” when he pulled over the unregistered car on Friday in the central Australian town of Alice Springs.

The 30-can carton was strapped in between the two adults sitting in the back seat of the car. The child was also in back, on the vehicle’s floor.

“The child was sitting in the lump in the center, unrestrained,” Burnett told reporters Tuesday.

“I haven’t ever seen something like this before,” he said. “This is the first time that the beer has taken priority over a child.”

The driver was fined for driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, and for failing to ensure a child was wearing a seat belt.

Alice Springs Police Superintendent Sean Parnell expressed shock at the incident in a statement released Tuesday.

“This serves as a timely reminder to all drivers to ensure they wear seat belts and ensure as is their responsibility that all passengers in their vehicle are secured in the appropriate manner,” he said.

Awesome, Beer, Canada - No Comments » - Posted by James on February, 29 at 3:47 pm

Its Friday and that means its time to relax with a nice beer. But I’m at work and I cant drink until I get home. So lets watch some of my favorite beer commercials. These are all for Labatt Blue because I love it and that’s what I’m going to be drinking tonight.

This first one is Canada at its finest: Beer, Bears and Hockey

Next up: A bear bartender? HOW CRAZY!

And finally, my favorite beer commercial ever. How can you go wrong with beer, a bear, and Japanese karaoke? Answer: You cant.

Also, I once got kicked out of a club in Canada for quoting this commercial. CANADA! BRUE! CROSE ENOUGH!
They said I was too drunk.

Have a good Friday everyone. Drink some Labatt!

The Benefits of Beer

Beer - No Comments » - Posted by James on February, 22 at 9:00 pm

beer Beer improves metabolism, and many doctors consider that it is better to drink beer often (may be every day), but with moderate portions (100-200 ml), than rare but with huge portions.

1. Beer strengthens cordial muscle.
There are lots of potassium, magnesium, phosphorus in beer and it is excellent prophylaxis of myocardial infarction (heart attack), hypertension and heart failure. And nonalcoholic beer and dark beer of some brands could decreases the possibility of blood coagulability and thus decreases the risk of clots formation.

2. Beer appeases and cheers up.

Hops bitterness renders drowse, and alkaloid isomorphine which is in hop by chemical characteristics is analogous to morphine.

3. Beer withdraws uric stones
Many sorts of beer withdraw uric stones. It happens like that: potassium intensifies natrium and chlorine segregation by kidneys, and urine formation deeply increases. Thus demineralization of organism happens and uric stones are being withdrawn.

4. Beer softens skin and enlarges breast.
In XVI century pharmaceutical chemists recommended women to wash themselves with beer in order to have soft skin. And Prussian Queen Louise who had flat breast was advised to drink beer and smear her breast with beer three times per day.

5. Beer strengthen bones
Beer is the main source of silicon. This mineral plays a large role in strength of bone and muscle system.

6. In 100 grams of beer are only 37 Kcal
To compare in 100 gram of kefir / 59 Kcal. That means that drinking beer after work is not so harmful for the figure. And so called “beer bellies” form not from beer but from sausages and beer.

7. Beer is good for mental work
There are lots of group B and P vitamins in malt and hop, and they improve mental activity.

8. Beer hastens hair growth
And vitamins B and P affect hair growth. It is recommended to make nourishing masks from beer for hair once a week. And if you wet your clean hair with beer and then use hair rollers – after that you will get tight and bright ringlets.

9. Beer is good while having cold
Beer has bactericidal behaviour, if you drink warm beer while having cold or flu, it is possible to recover faster. In Medieval times during plague and cholera epidemic brewery workers rarely were ill. And while having toothache before teeth were rinsed with beer.

10. Beer is good for male potency
Zinc which is in beer is good for male potency and it prevents prostate inflammation.

Saving the Planet One Drink at a Time

Even alcoholics are starting to get in on this new "Green" trend. Companies in the UK are starting to use lightweight glass bottles that use up to 30% less glass than normal bottles.

New technology means that less glass is needed to create a bottle of suitable strength. A bottle created using the latest technology uses over 30% less glass than a traditionally created bottle. While that doesn’t translate to huge amounts of glass for each individual bottle, the cumulative effect is huge.

Microbrews Run Dry On Hops, Sam Adams Offers Tons To Help

Beer, News - No Comments » - Posted by James on February, 18 at 8:38 am

The Boston Beer Company has decided to open their supply of hops to small brewers across the US due to a major shortage in supply. This just goes to show that they not only care about making their own beer, but that they respect the small time brewer. Respect ++.

“For a couple of months now, we ’ve all been facing the unprecedented hops shortage and it’s affected all craft brewers in various ways. The impact is even worse on the small craft brewers–openings delayed, recipes changed, astronomical hops prices being paid and brewers who couldn’t make beer.”
